Video: High Clearance Cover Crop Seeding
Dan Perkins, Jasper County (Indiana) SWCD, put together a series of videos demonstrating the use of a high clearance sprayer to apply cover crops. You can watch those videos below. The last video is a Power Point presentation where Dan answers several questions he's been getting on the topic:
- What are a couple types of high clearance sprayers available for cc seeding?
- Are corn ears and stalks knocked down during seeding?
- How much yield loss from end row turning?
- Can we seed into soybeans?
Overview of the High Clearance Sprayer
Get a good view of the booms, the hydraulics lifting the machine. Seeding of oats and radish into seed corn with modified high clearance dry fertilizer spreader. Rate was 46 # acre of oats and 3 # of radish. Very even spread and good coverage.
View from Inside the High Clearance Sprayer While Seeding Cover Crops
NW Indiana. Narrated video of dry fertilizer high clearance sprayer rigged to spread cover crops. This is just a dry run to show how in 10 ft tall corn, no damage to the plant occurs.
Closeup View of Tires Between the Rows
30 sec silent video of front wheel to rear wheel pan while driving through 10 ft tall corn to show how now corn is knocked down or damaged. Not actually seeding cover crop in this video as it is to early for this field, but just did as demo.
View of Rows After Seeding Cover Crops
See how the corn looks along the wheel track after the high clearence sprayer has done through 10ft tall corn. The wheel track is where the potential for most damage would occur. No ears knocked off or stocks down, see for yourself.
Power Point Presentation
A narrated slide show of the day I spent with a modified dry fertilizer high clearance spreader seeding cover crops into seed corn and a trial run in field corn. Key questions answered: 1. What are a couple types of high clearance sprayers available for cc seeding? 2.
