Hairy vetch is a prolific producer of nitrogen and a favorite of organic producers.

Hairy vetch is a nitrogen producing plant that works fairly well on low fertility soils. 

It's relatively easy to kill in the spring. However, there is some hard seed so it can show up uninvited on your farm a little later. It's kind of like the in-laws that you can't get rid of. 

For best results, allow five to six weeks of growth before winter shows up.
