Sunn Hemp is a summer seeded nitrogen producer. It works well planted alone or planted with other species in a cocktail mix.
Sunn Hemp is an excellent nitrogen producer. Alabama reported an average of 126 lb. per acre of nitrogen produced in 12 weeks.
It grows very fast, reaching 6 feet tall in 60 days while producing 100 lb. of nitrogen.
Sunn Hemp translocates phosphorus and potassium to the topsoil. It has a deep tap root and performs very well on low fertility, well-drained sandy soils.
Sunn Hemp produces a lot of biomass when grown in high temperatures. It provides excellent weed and root knot nematode suppression, and increases organic matter quickly.
