Turnips

Turnips have more of a bulb root that a deep taproot. However, they have proven over the years to be beneficial to the soil, improving it and helping farmers achieve greater yields the following season.

Appin Turnips

Appin turnips will survive down to temperatures in the 20's. They can be planted alone or in a mix. They work quite well with oats.

Appin turnips are excellent for grazing cattle. If you have two goals - soil health and feed - then Appins are a great choice. They respond very well to manure and produce prolific amounts of top growth.

Purple Top Turnips

Purple top turnips are a great cover crop option when grazing is not a goal, but price point is a concern. With purple tops, you get the advantage of a brassica root, but not the prolific top growth you’ll find on an Appin turnip. Purple tops are a great choice for a cover crop mix.
